Much of my creative work is done under the branding of Basement Office Studios. It fits because my office, for years, was in the basement of our Raleigh home. What is included here is many of the videos that I have created using my DJI Phantom 3 Pro drone, and most of that over Moss Lake in Cleveland County North Carolina, where we reside much of the time. There are other montages that I’ve created using photos that I’ve taken over the years.
It is important to note that one of the main reasons that I create these videos is to have a reason to compose the music that accompanies them. I hope that you enjoy both.
These video clips were taken from my DJI Phantom 3 Pro quadcopter during two visits to Shelley Lake, in Raleigh, North Carolina. There are two scenes with two Geese fly – Thus the name.
Drone Approach to Downtown Raleigh
This was a quick flight from Dorothea Dix Park toward downtown Raleigh. It was only 27º(F) so I didn’t fly for very long. Video editing was done with iMovie and the music was created using Logic Pro X.
This was my first serious flight of Velocicopter II, a DJI Phantom 3 Pro, having lost VI in Moss Lake. Less than 2 miles from my home in Raleigh, this was my first serious visit to the old mill falls. I use iMovie to edit the video and Logic Pro X to make the music.
Cherryville New Year’s Shooters Finale 2017
The traditional Cherryville New Year’s Shooters performing to tchaikovsky’s “1812 overture.” Recorded January 2, 2017. The finale was recorded from a Phantom 3 Pro camera drone, from about 120 feet.
A Drone ride over Moss Lake in western North Carolina. The drone was a DJI Phantom 3 Pro, piloted by me.
First Flight of Velocicopter II
A short first flight of my second DJI Phantom 3 Pro, replacing the one that I lost in Moss Lake in October. The music was composed using Logic Pro during a train ride from Raleigh to Charlotte, North Carolina.
A fly over Yates Mill Pond and to the historic (1766) grist mill. The quadcopter is a DJI Phantom 3 Pro drone. I used Logic X Pro and a Novation Impulse 49 keyboard to make the music.
Photographs from the Road, by David Warlick
I spent the last 20 years of my career traveling the globe, promoting modern principles for educating today’s children. In those travels, I found that I was spending my time in hotel rooms and not getting out and enjoying the exotic (and not so exotic) places. So I took up photography, as a way of getting me out into this world I was privileged to be visiting. These are some of my favorite photos.
Aerial Photography Set to Kashmir
This is my arrangement of Kashmir by Led Zeppelin, with assorted drone photography laid over it. The greatest fun is editing the video and images to fit over the music. The next greatest fun is programming the music.
20 Years of Travel as an Education Provocateur
This video features photos spanning the years from 1997 to 2014, from Fuji disposable cameras to my Nikon D7100 DSLR. The music was programmed using Logic X Pro.
Three Days on the Island of Maui
In 2012 I spoke at a conference of independent school teachers in Pukalani on the island of Maui. While there, I had the pleasure of driving on some of the most spectacular and spectacularly terrifying roads of my life. Here are my favorite photos from those three days.
This video includes pictures from a three-day drive I took through the Selkirks, in British Columbia. My wife has commented that I need to leave the pictures up longer, so I have in this video. The music was inspired by Max Richter’s “On the Nature of Daylight” from the movie, “Arrival.”
These are photographs taken near, by or from above Moss Lake in Cleveland County, North Carolina. The music is original, “Bayou Breakdown #29526” – because 29,525 other songs have already be named “Bayou Breakdown.”
A quick up-and-down with my Phantom 3 Pro drone. The drum back ground was a bit of a challenge. I’ve played many instruments in my life, but never drums. So I’ve never listened to them that closely. Now that I’m making music by computer, I’m challenged to know what drums do. I’ve not got it yet, but its been fun getting there.
For nearly 20 years, the Cassini space craft traveled through space, exploring other worlds, taking us along and teaching us things about our solar system that have inspired us with wonder. Thank you technicians, engineers and scientists for taking us to other worlds.
Dreaming on the Blue Ridge Parkway
We spent the morning driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville. Unfortunately, hurricane Nate that blew many of the leaves off the trees of the Smokey Mountains before they had a chance to turn their usual bright colors.
A series of Drone captured video clips taken during a foggy morning over Moss Lake, in North Carolina.
This is a short video taken from a DJI Phantom 3 Plus drone. The music was created with Logic Pro X on a refurbished MacBook Pro. Fun!
Here are video clips taken from my Phantom 3 Pro drone over the past year or so. I set it to my arrangement of “All Along the Watchtower” by Bob Dylan. Making the music is why I do this.
I recorded these video clips with my iPhone and edited them with iMovie on an iPad Mini. The music was created with Music Studio on iPad.
This is still my only working self-made bow, 47″ of hickory. The video was taken by my brother, Dennis.
Short drone hover over autumn forest with the camera pointed down.
A sub-freezing and short flight of my drone over Moss Lake in North Carolina. Again, I make the videos for the excuse to make the music that accompanies them.
A short but interesting morning drone flight. The music is produced using a good deal of arpeggio, which always feels like cheating to me.
